Enthusiasts
go the distance for
charity with help from h2 drinks
Ten
daring classic car enthusiasts getting ready to drive
a convoy of Hillman Imps to Budapest to raise money
for Cancer Research UK have already received a boost
to their fundraising thanks to the makers of H2 Drinks.
The
Imp enthusiasts, all members of The Imp Club, will be
really putting their cars to the test on the nine-day,
2,500-mile expedition as their pride and joys are all
more than 30 years old.
The
drivers taking up the ‘Budapest ‘04’ challenge
will set out in pairs from Ashford in Kent on 25th June.
Each car will cover an average of 360 miles each day
with a three-day break when they reach Budapest. Stops
are also planned in Cologne, Germany and Linz in Austria,
before the final leg to Hungary’s capital.
All
participants are paying their own way on the trip so
all sponsorship received can go straight to the charity.
H2, the drinks range from the UK’s largest independent
soft drinks company, Macaw, based in Nelson, Lancashire,
got behind the project at the suggestion of one of their
employees, Paul Emery. A friend of the Budapest ‘04
organiser, Steve Potz-Rayner, Paul raised the issue of
sponsorship with the company and H2 was keen to support
the trip.
Marnie
Millard, Macaw’s sales and marketing director said: “When
Paul approached us about sponsorship for his friend’s
fundraising expedition we were more than happy to help
out both financially and by providing bottles and bottles
of H2 Fruit Flavoured Spring Waters for the trip. I wish
them all the luck with the trip and hope they raise as
much money as possible for a very worthy cause.”
Steve Potz-Rayner, The Imp Club’s chairman said: “Not only are
we hoping to raise a substantial amount of money for a very worthy cause, but
as Hillman Imp enthusiasts, what better way to raise money than by driving
the cars that we spend hours of our spare time maintaining and preparing.
“We’re
often asked ‘why Budapest?’ and apart from
the fact I am half Hungarian myself, it remains a much
unvisited country by tourists from the UK who often opt
for a city break to Paris or Rome instead. This will
be a great opportunity for everyone involved to visit
a country they haven’t, or wouldn’t normally
plan a holiday to.”
The group are still seeking further sponsorship - if anyone would like to discuss
sponsorship opportunities please contact Steve Potz-Rayner on
